Why is this Academy needed?A better world needs better leaders. Future Foundations and the University of Bath Students' Union recognised that that by supporting the leaders of today's university clubs and societies, you would be nurturing tomorrow's leaders of society.Leadership is a developmental activity, which requires reflection, practice and sharing of examples between fellow leaders. Nevertheless, presidents of societies can find themselves leading large numbers of people without previous experience. Elsewhere, student leaders may have plenty of leadership experience but lack the opportunity for a neutral sounding board that can help them develop and grow further. What are the benefits of being a member of the academy? The Leadership Academy will help students to... Develop their understanding of the following concepts:
Develop the following skills:
It will also give students the opportunity to develop relationships with the future leaders of society and current business and community leaders. By developing knowledge of these concepts, building a leadership support network and a skill base designed for leading in the 21st century students will gain an unrivaled advantage throughout your life. More important than this, they will be placing themselves in a position where they can make a real difference in society. The University of Bath Students’ Union exists to represent its members and provide them with services, support and opportunities for development to enable them to maximise the benefits of their overall student experience. The union is keen to help student leaders of societies achieve their potential. The Academy has a founding University of Bath Steering Group which has worked closely with FF, this includes:• Ian Robinson, General Manager, Students' Union • Siobáin Hone, Student Enterprise Coordinator • Becky Gallagher, Student Employment Coordinator • Anna Bonham, Volunteer Co-ordinator • Mandy Wilson-Garner, Membership Services Manager What is be involved?
During the year, the group will also have the opportunity to get advice and input from leaders of different backgrounds and organisations. The Academy is a peer support network of exceptional students all holding leadership roles within a University club, society, volunteer group or in a supervisory position or job. Through their participation, members of the Academy will learn how to be more effective and responsible leaders. The programme was created in partnership with the University of Bath.
